Cookies Policy
Last updated: April 2026
This page explains how Folda uses cookies and similar technologies, what each category does, and how you can change your preferences at any time.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make sites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to the site's owners. We also use related technologies such as local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, and service workers — this policy covers all of them collectively as "cookies".
2. Categories we use
2.1 Strictly necessary
These are required for Folda to function and cannot be switched off. They include cookies and storage used for sign-in sessions, security tokens, CSRF protection, your selected theme, your Folda Secure unlock session, and your saved cookie preferences themselves.
- Authentication — keeps you signed in across pages and tabs.
- Security — protects against cross-site request forgery and session hijacking.
- Folda Secure session — temporarily holds your unlocked vault state in memory while you use it.
- Service worker / PWA — caches the app shell so Folda loads quickly and works offline.
- Consent record — remembers the choices you made on this banner.
2.2 Functional
These remember choices you make so we can give you a more personalised experience. They are optional but switching them off may make the app feel less convenient.
- Remembered email or device label on the sign-in screen.
- Recently used folders, document filters, and KYC pack selections.
- Push notification subscription metadata for document expiry reminders.
2.3 Analytics
These help us understand which features are used, where users get stuck, and how to improve Folda. Data is aggregated and we do not use it to identify you personally. You can decline analytics without losing access to any feature.
2.4 Marketing
We may use a small number of marketing cookies on our public landing pages (e.g. /,/pricing, /features) to measure the performance of campaigns that brought you to Folda. We do not run marketing cookies inside the signed-in app.
3. Third parties
The following third parties may set cookies when you use parts of the Service:
- Paystack — secure card and bank checkout for subscriptions.
- Google & Apple — only when you choose to sign in with them.
- Browser push services (e.g. Apple Push, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Mozilla autopush) — only when you opt in to push notifications.
- Our hosting and CDN provider — to route traffic and protect against abuse.
Each third party operates under its own privacy and cookies policy.
4. Managing your preferences
You can change your choices at any time:
- Click on this page or in the footer.
- Use your browser's settings to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will sign you out and may prevent the app from loading.
- On mobile, you can clear site data from your browser's site settings.
5. Do Not Track
Folda respects the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where your browser sends one. When GPC is detected we automatically opt you out of analytics and marketing categories.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookies Policy as our use of cookies evolves. Material changes will be highlighted in a banner the next time you visit Folda. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the latest version.
